Donatas Motiejunas trade with Pistons voided after failed physical

The Rockets' three-team trade sending Donatas Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton to the Pistons while receiving a first round draft pick has been voided by Detroit, because D-Mo was unable to pass a physical, Yahoo! Sports' The Vertical reports.

All of this is basically bad news, and I say this as the guy who grew to love Donuts more than most other Rockets over the course of last season. On top of what is now sure to be just an awkward situation in Houston's already troubled locker room, the Rockets

1. Lose a first round draft pick
2. Remain above the luxury tax
3. Welcome back a player who was rejected from a team that gave up a first-round pick for him because his health was deemed too risky

There has been some debate on TDS as to whether or not the trade was smart. Nationally, swapping D-Mo for picks was seen as a good move. The Rockets aren't winning anything this season. This team isn't hovering around .500 as a fluke. Breaking up a team that isn't winning isn't a bad decision, especially when you can get a draft pick back. Locally, though, Rockets fans expressed frustration, but these were likely the same people that thought all of Houston's early season issues would fade away upon Motiejunas' return.

In the trade that now never was, Daryl Morey was trying to act for the future, which I argued at the trade deadline was commendable. Clearing up cap-space would allow for some free agent chasing this summer, which there still could be room for. Now, however, at least the immediate future is basically been decided for Houston by Detroit.

Before you mention anything in the comments: yeah, we are aware of the Sean Elliott-Robert Horry trade. I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say: Hey. Stop that. Don't talk about that. Don't compare that to this. Please. You're making me sad."
