Rockets shopping Patrick Beverley, Trevor Ariza and K.J. McDaniels in trade talks

Daryl Morey is up to his usual tricks and it may result in moving some affordable defensive-minded players.

Caylor Arnold-USA TODAY Sports

Rockets GM Daryl Morey is kicking the tires and lighting the fires on Patrick Beverley, Trevor Ariza, and K.J. McDaniels in an attempt to get some new blood on the roster, according to Jake Fischer from TDS' sister site, Liberty Ballers.

Fischer also reported that the Houston Rockets pitched a deal to the Philadelphia 76ers that would have sent Patrick Beverley and Trevor Ariza to the City of Brotherly Love in exchange for Nerlens Noel, but the deal was immediately rejected. Rumors are swirling that the Sixers are trying to move Noel or Jahlil Okafor before tonight's NBA Draft

Frank Isola reported that the Rockets are looking to move into the first round of the draft and have dangled Beverley as bait.

It's no surprise that the Rockets would move Ariza, even if he is locked into a reasonable contract, but the addition of Beverley in trade talks raises an eyebrow. The temptation to see Clint Capela and Noel uniting to block all the shots doesn't change the fact that the pickup would also create gaps at other positions. The Rockets don't have an immediate solution at point if they let go of Beverley. Could this signal the beginning of James Harden unleashing the "Point Beard" era on the Association? It would look that way, unless head coach Mike D'Antoni hopes backup Jason Terry is his answer. Spoiler alert: We love JET but that is not the answer if the Rockets want to fight for a title in 2017.

Also, letting go of Ariza means that the Rockets are likely ready to exercise Michael Beasley's team option and plug him in at small forward. I have no idea if this is a good idea if you consider Beasley's measly one-year cost of $1.4 million or if it means I need to buy all the Ricola cough drops in advance of the season, since I will be screaming at the TV constantly.

What is certain is that Daryl Morey is much smarter than me, and he has a plan. What is that plan and will it result in a revamped roster? We have to wait and watch the Wizard work his magic.
